Clothing
We will be outside every day in all but the very worst weather. This is not only healthy for all of us, but it is fun!
Dragonflies & Daisies has made an investment in high-quality rain bibs and all-weather waterproof boots for all of the children in our program to use. These items will remain on the farm and will be cleaned and cared for by us. We want messy, wet, outdoor play to be carefree, with no concerns about getting clothes really dirty or ruining shoes.
We do require children to come to our program wearing long pants or leggings and layered clothing that can get dirty. Each child will need a complete set of spare clothing in their basket, including pants, shirt, underwear, and socks.
Slippers
Teachers and children change into non-slip slippers when entering the classroom. This serves two practical purposes: our feet stay warm, and we keep the classroom free of outdoor debris.
This shows the child that we care about our learning space. More importantly, it serves as a cue that they are entering a calm and focused environment that is warm, welcoming, and cozy.
Their slippers will be kept in their basket for the school year.
Waterproof Rain Coat with Hood
Children will need a waterproof raincoat with a hood.
Lisa recommends jackets from outdoorschoolshop.com, which offers both lined and unlined options. An unlined jacket is recommended so layers can be added underneath according to the weather conditions.
Lisa wears an unlined waterproof rain jacket year-round on the farm and spends many hours outdoors regardless of the weather, as the animals require care even when temperatures drop to 14 degrees.
As winter approaches, we will provide recommendations for layering to help keep your child warm and comfortable.
Art Shirt
Children have access to art supplies throughout the day. Please send an adult-sized T-shirt from home with your child on their first day.
This will help protect clothing from paint and other art materials. As an added bonus, at the end of the year, you may have a unique wearable keepsake filled with creative memories.
If your child has sensory concerns related to clothing, please let us know so we can work together to find suitable alternatives. Their comfort is important to us.
